Billing Manager generating zero charge invoices

Hi everyone,

When I generate invoices in the Billing Manager, I get a number of zero charge invoices to libraries with the Billing Category exempt. I think this is a result of the Odyssey Helper "Auto Bill Default" feature, which would apply a default charge of zero to these libraries. Unfortunately, this generates zero charge invoices and the Billing Manager doesn't appear to be smart enough to know I wouldn't want to generate such invoices.

Has anyone figured out how to prevent this? Will this be a fix in an upcoming ILLiad release?

It's kind of a pain to manually cancel all those zero invoices.

Thanks!
Tina

Tina,

I don't use Odyssey Helper (at least not so far as I know), but I've found that when billing category = exempt, no attempt to generate a billing is made during the updating process. This is true regardless of whether I've left the copy & loan cost fields blank or entered 0 in each of them. For those institutions which we charge for copies but not loans, I do enter 0 in the loan charge, and just cancel the billing in the course of updating the request to shipped. My rationale for putting 0 rather than leaving the cost field blank is to provide ease of searching for statistics. It's easier to search for a field containing a 0, and leave the search for Null field value to locate records lacking necessary values. I also find it easier to cancel as we ship, rather than canceling in billing manager after the invoice has been created.

Hi Joe,

That all makes sense...especially since we didn't have this problem before the Odyssey Helper. I think the problem is actually there rather than the Billing Manager.

Thanks,
