In Stacks Searching queue problem

I have 49 items currently in my "In stacks searching" queue. When I click on the queue in ILLiad 8 I see some very old TN numbers, i.e. TN: 14 which was probably from day 1 of ILLiad. When I click on the transaction I get the following error: The selected transaction failed to load. Please try again. Anyone else having problems viewing the "In stacks searching" queue in ILLiad 8?

Lending default billing category

In ILLiad 7.4 when adding a new library the billing category defaulted to DEFAULT. In ILLiad 8.0 no billing category is listed and you need to click on the drop down arrow to select a billing category. In Customization Manager we have set DEFAULT as the “lending billing default category” but it apparently does not work in ILLiad 8. Has anyone else noticed this small discrepancy?

We finished the updates to Odyssey Helper last weekend. DLSG received information on those changes as well as a demo earlier this week.

Once DLSG updates their software to work with the new version, you should be good to go. I'd recommend contacting DLSG to get a timeline from them. We'll release the new Odyssey Helper once they are finished and have tested using the new version with our preview site.

Great to hear! I look forward to seeing how it all works.

We are working with one of our ILLiad preview sites to review a new version of Odyssey Helper that adds the functionality that third party applications will need to be able to update both Odyssey and non-Odyssey records in ILLiad.

I appreciate the fact that you developed ILLiad 8 such that version 7.4 could still work with the SQL data. However, I must definitely encourage the continued development discussions between Atlas and DLSG for the transition of BSCAN ILL to ILLiad 8 and/or Odyssey Helper. We depend on BSCAN ILL to speed up our processing and consider it a necessity for our ILL operation (not to mention the need for continued results from our financial investments in both products). As a systems administrator, I would really like to eliminate the need for more than one version of the client. Our ILL staff are well versed in version 7.4 but our student work force has a fairly good turnover rate and training on multiple versions of the same client could lead to more hassle than we would be willing to endure.

Workflow Toolkit Tip of the Week - Due Date Reminders

One of the more convenient aspects of circulation systems is the due date reminder. Although this is not built in to ILLiad, it can easily be configured to send out due date reminders to your users. By changing the timing and text of your first overdue notice, you can more easily prompt your users to submit renewal requests on their own for items coming due. This can decrease the number of renewals your staff must process manually and also decrease the number of overdue materials.

This tip is easy to implement: all you have to do is change the values of your OverdueGraceDays, OverdueNoticeOneDays, and OverdueNoticeTwoDays keys in the Customization Manager. Then update your overdue email templates accordingly and you’re all set. For more information and sample templates, check out the Workflow Toolkit wiki.

I think we've figured it out! It appears ILLiad 8 doesn't like the use of double quotes in routing rules. If you change all your quotes to single quotes, it should solve any problems you've been having with custom routing.

I can confirm this. Using single quotes fixed our routing issues with ILLiad 8.

We've virtualized our ILLiad server many moons ago - okay I moved us to a virtual server in March 2008. Seems a lot longer.

Regardless, it wasn't that bad of a transition. We have our ILLiad server hosting our ILLiad file share and IIS web server. Our MS SQL database is on a different VM due to the nature of MS SQL being a massive resource hog in every manner of the definition. We use VMWare ESX version 3.5 with Virtual Center to manage our VMs. The ILLiad VM has 1 CPU and 768 MB RAM allocated (though it doesn't use that much, it's using 96MB right now). We have 2 virtual hard drives connected (15 GB for primary for OS/Apps, 30 GB secondary for PDFs).

It helped that I kept all of the server installation files, documents, notes for a previous server transition.

The hosted servers at OCLC are virtual servers (we saw racks & racks of them on a tour), so I'd think it could be done at your library, too. I can't offer any specific advice, though. -- Margaret Ellingson, Emory University

We host our own server for ILLiad and the IT guys notified me that the box is near the end of its support life. The IT team asked if we would be willing to consider using a Virtual Server configuration for ILLiad instead of buying a stand-alone machine. Apparently we have quite a few of our core resources already running in VMs (Banner, Outlook, etc), and they'd like to move as many systems into that profile as possible. I don't know enough about how ILLiad operates to know if this is even a feasible option for us. I asked OCLC tech support if this was a possibility, but simply got the latest server configuration for another stand-alone machine.

Has anyone out there set up a virtual machine for ILLiad? If so, please contact me directly so I can discuss it with you.

We have our branch scan and send to us as a email attachment which we "print" to an edocs folder to create a tiff and then just send along with our other odyssey stuff - not a problem

Odyssey and requests for branch libraries

We are considering implementing Odyssey sending for Lending. Aside from our main campus libraries, Lending requests are also filled by personnel at our Remote Storage facility and at our Discovery Park facility. Our Lender sends custom emails via ILLiad to the other personnel to pull/scan items.

If anyone else has a similar situation, how are you indicating to branch staff that items should be sent via Odyssey instead of via Ariel or some other method? For our main campus, I can modify our pull slips to indicate 'Odyssey', but the custom emails don't offer as much flexibility (unless I'm missing something). We don't normally 'mark item as found' until the article has actually been scanned, so personnel at Remote Storage and the Discovery Park need a method for identifying Odyssey items before scanning takes place.
